What ISTQB member boards do
ISTQB is a not-for-profit association. Its members are national and regional boards, one per country or region. Some boards cover several countries, such as the Belgium and Netherlands board, the UK and Ireland board, and the Hispanic America board.
Member boards don’t all work the same way, but most of them:
- Translate and adapt syllabi and exams into local languages.
- Accredit training providers and review their course material against the syllabus.
- License exam providers to run exams in their country. ISTQB defines an exam provider as “an organization licensed by a member board(s) to offer exams locally and internationally.”
- Run exams themselves in some countries.
- Keep a register of certified testers, so employers can check a certificate.
- Send experts to the ISTQB working groups that write the syllabi.

How to find your board or provider
- Find your country in the member board table below and open the board’s website.
- Check which exams and languages the board offers. Boards list their languages, but not every exam is available in every language.
- Look for the board’s list of licensed exam providers, or use the ISTQB exam provider search and filter by exam.
- Compare providers on price, delivery method (test center or online), language and retake terms. Our booking guide has a checklist.
- Ask the certificate issuer about optional public-register listing and the consent needed to add your record.

If your country has no member board
You can still take an ISTQB exam. Several exam providers are licensed to offer exams internationally, and many run them online with remote proctoring. Search the ISTQB exam provider directory by exam, then ask the provider whether it accepts candidates from your country and offers the language you need.

Compare the exact offering
Country is only the starting point. Compare provider, exam version, language, delivery method and package. Fees and appointment terms can change, so each country guide shows the source and date checked.
- Ask whether a displayed price includes tax and remote proctoring charges.
- Check whether the purchase is a voucher, a scheduled appointment or a course package.
- Confirm cancellation, retake and rescheduling terms for that route.
- Keep the provider’s confirmation with your booking record.

If a board website does not open, use its record in the official ISTQB directory for current contact details. A blocked or unavailable website does not mean the board has lost its membership.
Four boards list 2002, the year ISTQB was founded: Austria, Belgium and Netherlands, Finland and Sweden. Seven boards list a founding year of 2023 or later: Algeria, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Lithuania, Poland and Rwanda. Two boards, in Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates, list no website in the official directory, so their names are not linked.

What is an ISTQB member board?
A national or regional organization that represents ISTQB in its country. Member boards translate syllabi and exams, accredit training providers, license exam providers and keep registers of certified testers.
How many ISTQB member boards are there?
The ISTQB member board directory listed 71 boards when we checked on October 4, 2026. Some boards cover more than one country.
Is a national board the same as a member board?
A national board can be an ISTQB member board. ISTQB’s directory uses the term “member board”, which also includes boards serving more than one country or a region.
Do I have to take the exam through my country’s board?
No. You can book with any exam provider licensed to serve your country, including international providers that offer online exams. Check the provider’s language and eligibility rules first.
Is my certificate different if I take the exam in another country?
No. You earn the same ISTQB certification whichever member board or licensed exam provider runs your exam. Your certificate shows who issued it.
What if my country has no member board?
Use the ISTQB exam provider directory to find a provider that offers your exam internationally, often online with remote proctoring.
