ISTQB exams in Japan: fees and booking

JSTQB and JUSE booking, Japanese-language exams, and the differences between computer and paper sessions.

Member board and booking

Japan Software Testing Qualifications Board (JSTQB). JSTQB’s Japanese-language exams are administered through JUSE, with Pearson operating the computer-based route. JUSE links to the qualification account used for registration. Choose the computer-based (CBT) or paper-based (PBT) instructions before reserving an appointment.

Published Foundation fee in Japan

JUSE lists JPY 22,000 including tax for the Foundation Level paper exam in Tokyo on January 16, 2027. This is a dated PBT example, not a price guarantee for every exam or format. The published application deadline is December 11, 2026, with applications subject to available seats.

Price source, checked October 6, 2026: official fee information. Confirm the current payable amount before payment.

Compare exam costs for the same certification and delivery method. These prices are provider records, not national tariffs.

Delivery and local checks

Computer-based exams and scheduled paper sessions have separate booking instructions. For CBT, start with JUSE’s account and eligibility steps, then use its linked reservation route. For PBT, check the published session and payment confirmation process.

  • Match the appointment to the delivery format. A CBT account does not reserve a paper-session seat.
  • If you hold a CTFL certificate from another board and want an Advanced exam, JUSE describes a certificate-verification step. Allow time for that check before choosing a date.

Language and adjustments

JSTQB says its exams are delivered in Japanese. English exams in Japan may be offered through other ISTQB examination bodies, with their own booking arrangements. Non-native Japanese speakers must apply for any extra-time approval through the registration process.

Preparation and booking

Before anything else, read the CTFL guide: every other ISTQB exam requires CTFL. Then choose the matching official study materials. Follow the booking checklist for eligibility, identity checks and appointment confirmation.

Changes and retakes

JUSE administers the Japanese-language exams, so its published application terms govern your booking. Check the cancellation and retake rules on its page before you apply.

Results and certificates

Use the examination body named on your Japan confirmation for results, certificate access and name corrections. Turnaround times vary by provider, and we have not verified one for every Japan route.
