CT-GT v1.0: Gambling Industry Tester
Consider this qualification when you test gambling software and need to understand domain-specific products, interfaces and test concerns. Check the entry requirements below before you book.
Syllabus: ISTQB CT-GT Syllabus v1.0 2019. Exam facts checked: October 4, 2026
Is CT-GT the right certification for you?
Consider this qualification when you test gambling software and need to understand domain-specific products, interfaces and test concerns.
When to choose another route: Choose this when gambling-domain products and test concerns are central to your role. For general transaction behavior, compare CTAL-TA. For a security-focused skill gap, compare CT-SEC. Domain scope is the reason to choose GT, not an expectation of regulatory approval.
Exam at a glance
40multiple-choice questions
40total available points
26 / 40minimum passing score in points
60 minstandard exam duration
These figures describe CT-GT v1.0. Use the listed point threshold, rather than assuming a fixed number of correct answers on a weighted exam.

How the exam is weighted
Question count and available points are different measures. Use the chapter allocation to set priorities, then check your own weak learning objectives. Every chapter remains examinable.
| Syllabus chapter | Questions | Points | Question share |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Introduction to the Gambling Industry | 12 | 12 | 30% |
| 2. The Gambling Industry Ecosystems | 4 | 4 | 10% |
| 3. Testing in the Gambling Industry | 24 | 24 | 60% |
| Total | 40 | 40 | 100% |
Start your planning with Testing in the Gambling Industry, which accounts for 24 of 40 questions. Give additional attention to difficult application and analysis objectives. Question share alone is not a personal study timetable.

What the syllabus covers
Use these chapters to organize your reading. The practice prompts are our editorial guidance. Use the official learning objectives to check the required depth.
Chapter 1: Introduction to the Gambling Industry
Build a small glossary of products, activities and measures using fictional examples. Explain a term in context instead of memorizing an isolated definition.
Chapter 2: The Gambling Industry Ecosystems
Trace a transaction across the gambling ecosystem and identify responsibilities and interfaces. State where external behavior must be simulated or confirmed.
Chapter 3: Testing in the Gambling Industry
Choose investigations for mathematical behavior, platforms, protocols and remote services. Separate a software result from a broader statistical or regulatory claim.

How to prepare
The suggestions below are our editorial advice, not ISTQB requirements.
- Keep a glossary of domain terms with your own small examples.
- Trace an event across client, platform and external interfaces to find test boundaries.
- Separate a mathematical rule from the code implementing it and test both assumptions.
- State the evidence and specialist input needed before making a domain-wide claim.
Try this study exercise
Invent a small points-based game using fictional tokens with no money involved. Define its rules and expected calculations, then identify tests for boundaries, interrupted sessions and messages exchanged between components. Explain which checks show implementation behavior and which domain or statistical claims would need further specialist evidence.
A study plan with milestones
Use four passes through the material rather than a guaranteed number of weeks. The pace depends on your experience and available study time. This plan is our editorial recommendation, not an official course duration.
| Pass | Focus | Evidence of progress |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Orient | Read the learning objectives and Introduction to the Gambling Industry | A chapter map with terms you can explain and objectives you cannot yet demonstrate. |
| 2. Apply | The Gambling Industry Ecosystems, Testing in the Gambling Industry | A fictional gambling-product test model showing rules, component interfaces, domain risks and the limits of the proposed evidence. |
| 3. Diagnose | Take the matching official sample without looking at the answers | An error log separating missing knowledge, reasoning mistakes and rushed reading. |
| 4. Consolidate | Rework weak objectives and repeat the relevant exercises | A reasoned explanation of corrected answers, plus a confirmed exam version and booking checklist. |
For each uncertain answer, record the learning objective, why your choice seemed plausible, the official explanation and the example you will use to check your understanding again. Revisit guesses even when they happened to be correct.
Use the official sample exams
Take one sample under timed conditions before you open the answers, then review every guess as well as every wrong answer. Our sample exam guide shows how to turn a practice score into a study plan.
Before you book
Confirm the exam version, language and your eligibility with the provider before you pay. Use our booking checklist, the USA and India guides, and the exam day checklist.
Common questions
Does CT-GT replace licensing or product approval?
No. The qualification concerns testing knowledge. The relevant organization and authority determine product obligations, required evidence and approval processes.
Is CT-GT the same as Game Testing?
No. GT addresses gambling-domain systems and their ecosystem. CT-GaMe addresses game-software testing such as mechanics, graphics and controllers. Choose the domain and learning objectives that match your work.
Do I need to use real money for study exercises?
No. Fictional tokens and invented rules can illustrate test reasoning without a live gambling transaction. Keep the limits of the example explicit.
Does a correct mathematical result prove the whole system works?
No. Also examine implementation, interfaces, state changes and the relevant expected behavior. A correct calculation is evidence about one part of a larger system.
